The Dolphin Nautilus CC Supreme and Dolphin Sigma go head-to-head to see which is the better value for these top of the line robotic pool cleaners.
Read the full article >Hey guys, I’m Joshua with Poolbots.com. And today we’re comparing the Dolphin Sigma robotic pool cleaner with the Dolphin Nautilus CC Supreme.
You’ll often find these two in “best of” categories for robotic pool cleaners, and it’s easy to see why. Both have long list of features and exceptional 3-year warranties. They both clean the floors, walls, and waterline of inground pools. And they both have split-spinning scrubbing brushes for a deeper clean and better mobility. But when pitted against each other, which one is the better overall robotic pool cleaner? Let’s compare their power, cleaning ability, and overall value to find out.
In terms of power, the Nautilus CC Supreme is pretty standard for a premium unit with 3 motors. These are way more efficient than AC motors that you’ll find on budget models, and they’re a must for any wall-climbing unit. But the Dolphin Sigma seems to overpower the Supreme with 3 high output DC motors. These are the same motors found on commercial pool robots like the Dolphin Odyssey. Until the Sigma, you’d only find that many motors on commercial robotic pool cleaners - the kind you’d use in hotel pools, spas, even schools. The addition of a 3rd motor makes the Sigma the most powerful residential cleaner by a long shot, and it shows most in its underwater mobility and increased suction rate.
One area where these two units differ is in pool coverage. The Nautilus CC Supreme relies on Clever Clean technology, a software that detects obstacles and guides the unit back to its cleaning route. While Clever Clean was impressive in its prime, it is considered elementary compared to newer advancements, such as those found in the Dolphin Sigma. The Sigma utilizes SmartNav 3.0, which scans and learns your pool's unique layout to create the most efficient cleaning route. Combined with an onboard gyroscope that detects and monitors the unit's position, orientation, and location, the Sigma delivers precise, fast, and highly efficient cleaning that the CC Supreme cannot compete with.
Both the Nautilus CC Supreme and the Dolphin Sigma have standard filtration systems. The CC Supreme features two top-loading filter cartridges that are easy to access, empty, and clean. However, these cartridges are relatively small, making them inadequate for pools with larger debris like leaves. The Sigma, on the other hand, boasts the largest cartridges ever used in a residential pool robot. Its high capacity allows it to run several times before the filtration system requires attention. This is especially convenient for capturing larger debris, such as leaves, reducing the frequency of dirty filter cartridge cleanings.
Although the Nautilus CC Supreme is a popular and effective robotic pool cleaner, we have to call the Dolphin Sigma the winner of this head-to-head. It simply outperforms the CC Supreme. The Sigma’s 3rd DC motor and gyroscopic navigation make it one of the most efficient, precise, and powerful robotic pool cleaners available today. And its oversized filter cartridges can capture more debris and require fewer cleanings than the smaller cartridges of the CC Supreme. Plus, at the time of this video, the Sigma costs slightly less about $100 less than the Nautilus CC Supreme. So not only is the Sigma the better robotic pool cleaner in terms of performance, its price makes it the better value.
