Dolphin Premier vs Dolphin Nautilus CC Supreme

Introduction

Hey guys, I’m Joshua with Poolbots.com. And today we’re comparing two popular premium robotic pool cleaners: the Dolphin Premier and the Dolphin Nautilus CC Supreme.

If you’re looking for a higher-end robotic pool cleaner to clean your pool, you’ve probably seen these models pop up. They’re both designed to thoroughly clean pool floors, walls, and waterlines, and both have features that make them way more hands-off and user-friendly than budget models. So at first glance, it’s tough to figure out which one outperforms the other. But we took a deep dive to see whether the Premier or Nautilus CC Supreme wins overall based on performance, usability, and value. Here’s what we found.

Cleaning Power

First, let’s take a look at cleaning power. This is the most important thing to consider when shopping for robotic pool cleaners. If they can’t clean your pool thoroughly, you’re just left cleaning up after a glorified pool vacuum. Fortunately, both of these models have strong cleaning features. But there are a few key differences.

Filtration

The first and biggest difference to consider between these two models is filtration. And this is where the Dolphin Premier really edges out the Nautilus CC Supreme.

The Nautilus has 2 filter cartridges. They’re easy to clean, and they come with two options: fine and ultra-fine. The ultra-fine option can filter down to 2 microns, which picks up a lot of small sediment that clouds your pool. But these cartridges can’t handle much larger debris. If your pool gets even a moderate amount of leaves or pine needles, the CC Supreme’s cartridges will fill up so quickly that you’ll need to empty them out every 45 minutes or so. While their capacity is fine for small debris, it’s not designed to handle larger debris. That’s unfortunate because so many pool owners have trees and need help filtering out leaves and larger debris like pine needles.

The Premier has 4 filter media - double what the CC Supreme offers. It has the fine and ultra-fine cartridges for standard cleanings or deep cleans, but it also has an oversized leaf bag and it offers an optional disposable debris bag. This many filtration options on a robotic pool cleaner is a game-changer. Because no pool is alike in what debris it gets, no one filter media could possibly clean it efficiently. But with 4 options to choose from, pool owners can finally customize a cleaning based on their pool’s specific needs. Better yet, it doesn’t require extra babysitting with having to empty and reload the cartridges again and again.

Usability

In terms of usability, the Dolphin Premier with MultiMedia is the winner.

What’s supposed to set the Nautilus CC Supreme apart from other premium robotic pool cleaners is its WiFi connection to its smartphone app. From the app, you can schedule cleanings, delay starts, and drive the unit for spot cleanings. However, the app’s connection is somewhat spotty outdoors, and the remote feature can be frustrating without a strong signal because it tends to lag.

The Dolphin Premier, on the other hand, has a power supply like the commercial robots and optional remote control. You can set a weekly timer directly from the power supply, and the remote control never has connection problems. It’s ideal for spot cleaning or entertaining kids. Although it’s relatively simple, that works in the Premier’s favor because it’s more user-friendly than the Nautilus CC Supreme’s app. As the app technology continues to improve for robotic pool cleaners, we’ll probably see more units like the Premier shift toward that instead of a customizable power supply. But until then, this tried and true interface is what we’d prefer as pool owners.

Warranty

Finally, we would like to note a key difference in their warranties. While they both have three-month warranties, many sellers of the Nautilus CC Supreme include a hidden restocking fee of 50% if you return it in its return period. The Dolphin Premier will never include these restocking fees, though, which can be quite hefty since the CC Supreme is so expensive.

Conclusion

In this head-to-head, we have to give the edge to the Dolphin Premier. The Nautilus CC Supreme is a powerful and effective machine, and it’s still a solid choice for any large inground pool. However, it also costs about $200 more than the Dolphin Premier, it has a smaller filter capacity, fewer filter media options, and has the exact same 3-year warranty. We prefer the superior filtration, efficiency, and user-friendliness of the Dolphin Premier.
