Aquabot X2 Review

Introduction

Hey guys, I’m Joshua with Poolbots.com. And today we’re taking a closer look at the all-new X2 robotic pool cleaner from Aquabot.

Design and Features

The body of the Aquabot X2 is compact with 4 wheels. Each wheel has foam tread on it, which helps it maintain traction on pool floors. The top has transparent panels so you can see into the filtration system. These filter baskets are top-loading and easy to access, with a nylon filter cartridge. On the underside of the X2, you’ll see the oscillating scrubber and port extenders.

When it’s time to get the X2 in the water, just plug the power supply into the wall and push the simple on-off button. It’s a plug and play design, so it’s really easy to get it started.

Cleaning Performance

The Aquabot X2 is designed to clean pool floors and partially up the walls. Its coverage was especially impressive on the pool floor. Aquabot uses AutoX mapping to scan pool floors to make sure its units don’t overlook any spots. The X2 even powered over large drain covers easily.

While the X2 may clean the floor well, it only cleans part of the pool walls, typically climbing up a foot or two before heading back down to the floor. So scrubbing the rest of the walls and the waterline clean is something you’ll have to continue cleaning yourself.

The scrubbing brush on the bottom of the X2 is very effective at scrubbing stuck-on debris. The bristles are pointier and dig into pool surfaces more aggressively than a flat-bristle brush, and it’s way better than any static brush.

Filtration System

We’d call the Aquabot X2’s filtration system a little above average. We really like the transparent covers that make it easy to see when the baskets are getting full. And they’re spacious, with about 190 cubic inches of room for leaves, pine needles, twigs, even pool toys. Because they’re top-loading, the X2’s filter cartridges are super simple to access and clean.

Despite its filtration pros, the X2 has a few filtration cons. For one, it has a single filter media: the nylon mesh baskets. These are great for larger debris, but they aren’t great at capturing small particles that cloud pool water, like silt, sand, and even algae. That means the X2 is incapable of delivering a truly deep clean, simply because it can’t filter out the tiny particles that mess with pool clarity.

Operation and Performance

What’s it like to operate the Aquabot X2? It’s pretty simple and user-friendly, as long as you understand the X2 is an aid in your pool maintenance routine, it’s not an all-encompassing cleaner like premium robotic pool cleaners, such as the Dolphin Sigma.

The power supply is as simple as can be with just an on/off button. Similar models like the Dolphin Cayman come with a weekly scheduling option so you don’t have to manually start cleanings throughout the week, but that’s a feature many pool owners are fine without. You can always add a timer later on if you end up missing it.

The X2 is very reliable at cleaning pool floors for you, but again, it’s only going to climb a few feet of the walls and leave the rest for you to clean by hand. Even with all the X2 can’t do, it performs well with what it does do. In fact, there is no other robot in this price range that performs as well. So we must recognize it for its extreme value. It’s dependable and well-built, and it comes with a very appealing 2-year warranty from Aquabot.

Conclusion

Ultimately, we’d say the Aquabot X2 robotic pool cleaner is a good choice for above-ground pools or smaller inground pools. If you’re looking for a robotic pool cleaner that can clean the full wall and waterline, consider the slightly more expensive Dolphin Quantum. It cleans every surface, including walls and waterlines, comes with 2 filter media for customizable cleanings, has a hands-off programmable timer, and has a 3-year warranty.
