Dolphin Proteus DX3

  • No Waterline Cleaning - Won't clean the dirtest part of your pool
  • No Anti-Tangle Swivel
  • No NanoFilters™ - Cannot clean smaller debris and algae
  • Overshadowed by the newer Gen 2 models with more features - such as the ProLine and Max-Series
  • Shorter Warranty - Shorter warranty compared to the Dolphin ProLine

The Dolphin Proteus DX3 is a straightforward pool cleaner suitable for inground pools up to 33 feet, focusing on scrubbing floors and walls. However, it does not offer waterline cleaning or NanoFilters, limiting its effectiveness in capturing finer debris and algae. While the DX3’s Plug'n'Play functionality provides easy setup, the lack of advanced features, such as an anti-tangle swivel, makes it less appealing compared to newer, feature-rich alternatives. For users needing a thorough, uninterrupted clean, this model may not meet higher performance expectations.

Proteus DX3 is missing...

Dolphin NanoFilter Cartridges

No NanoFilters™

Without these Gen 2 filters, the Proteus DX3 cannot clean smaller particles, such as algae, sand, and other debris.

Why NanoFilters are essential →
Dolphin Dual Motors

Missing Commercial-Grade Motors

The Proteus DX3 uses the standard motors, rather than utilizing the more powerful, commercial-grade motors found on the ProLine™

No Waterline Cleaning

Without waterline cleaning, the Dolphin Proteus DX3 won't clean the dirtest part of your pool. The Proteus DX3 only has partial wall climbing.

I have an irregularly shaped pool about 30 feet long. Pop this little guy in and then collect in less than 3 hours and retrieve the basket, as shown, and low, it collects everything, even, as in this case, a basket full of acorns!! This thing has some great suction. It climbs up the walls, scubbing as it goes. Pretty clever. What i like best? Not having to manually fill the hose and plugging it into the side of the pool to vacuum the old way - I hated that! This DX does all of that without the hassles. Now it won't clean the spa...it's too big for that. It also won't climb up the wall of the spa where it is too curved, it isn't designed for that either. However, it does eall else, and I'm thrilled with it. I heartily recommend. PS - I thought about getting the more expensive Dolphin and wondered if I made the right choice....I did, no need to pay the extra money unless your pool is larger, then you might need the more expensive model.

Return policy is worthless! Can't return if used. Can't figure out if any good unless you use it. It's just okay. It worked (after spending some time getting the bobber switch to work cause it was stuck and wouldn’t start). Now that I've used it for several weeks, I'm not impressed. It works, just not very well. Poor suction, cleans minimally . Gets stuck on bottom circulation inlet over and over. Have to grab it and pull off to go again. Running it over and over again gets good results. However, timer is only an hour or so and no readout when cycle is finished. You just need to check on it often for getting stuck or timing out and manually push the start button again. And, again. And again! My old Polaris 9450 worked much better and was easier to clean filter too. It's problem was it only lasted for 4-5 years, then died. For almost a grand, I expect better from BOTH units. Guess Im stuck with this under-performer until it puts me out of my misery and dies. Just watch, this dang thing will keep doing a crummy job forever!

The product itself is a good product. The only drawback is that the power source didn't last 2 years and unable to get a replacement or find someone who can fix it. I will not be ordering another dolphin anytime in the near future. For the cost, you would think that it would last for a while. Please note, the power source was never in the elements it was always protected.

We lost our booster pump because of the freeze, no impeller to be found anywhere. We were tired of waiting and, our pool was suffering. We decided to buy a robotic cleaner to replace the booster pump and, the Polaris 280 cleaner. This eliminated both components, reducing cost and repairs. Now we only worry about the cleaner itself, and not a booster pump. We also are saving energy with removing the 3/4 HP booster pump that ran 2 to 3 hr. a day. We bought the DOLPHIN Proteus DX3 Automatic Robotic Pool Cleaner, bought it Sunday and it arrived Monday. It was easy to set up and run, just dropped it into the pool and withing hrs. it was clean. It could climb the walls and the steps with no problems. Once it was done, it was easy to clean and stored in our storage box. The only concern is the control box. It is water resistant but not waterproof. We store the control box in our sunroom, next to the pool, to keep it dry. I will build a watertight box for it so if it does rain while we are cleaning the pool, it will stay dry. In all, we are very happy with this product.

This is my second Dolphin, my older model lasted about 6 years. This one is much lighter and so much easier to clean. Performs well, I wish like my old one there was a way to have it clean in a different pattern sometimes. Overall we are pleased with it.
